Kids Quarry

Get ready to dig deep! Southern Minnesota is famous for its quarries and it's important to understand this unique attribute of our local landscape. Quarries are typically places we drive by, but at the Kids Quarry, it's time to put on a hard hat and get to work.

The Kids Quarry will be a child sized quarry perfect for playing out the different aspects of working with rocks. It's hard work carving rock from the earth, cutting it, preparing it, and transporting it to the job site. It's going to take team work to get this job done. Pulleys, conveyors, diggers and dump trucks are some of the tools children will use as they extract and move granite. There are many ways to get the job done, but what's the best way? In addition, being hands-on with real rocks, exploring their properties, and discovering their use will be another activity in the Kids Quarry.

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost."
