Children’s Museum Awarded Walmart Community Grant

Mankato— August 18, 2022— The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota was recently awarded a Walmart Community Grant of $3,500.

CEO Louise Dickmeyer says the Museum will use the funds to help the Gateway to Play Initiative.  The Gateway to Play Initiative provides opportunities for families, nonprofits and schools to access the Museum, who otherwise face barriers to participating.

Dickmeyer said, “The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota is guided by a vision to ensure that all children are able to experience the joy of learning through the power of play at the Museum. In order to make that vision a reality for those that may experience barriers to participation, we have developed several approaches to increase access to the Museum, which is all part of the Gateway to Play Initiative.”

In their announcement of the grant, Walmart said, “We are thrilled to support your work in our communities and share your desire to provide local impact. By receiving this grant, you are part of a long history of Walmart’s commitment to giving back to the communities where we operate.  In fact, Mrs. Helen Walton used to say “It’s not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.”
